Our high-quality porcelain and ceramic tiles can be used in more places than just your floors. Many of our customers have asked us to install patterned tiling on their walls, ceiling, kitchen backsplash, and steps. No job is too big or too small for us to handle!
Our Tile Installation Process
At Rome Flooring, we ensure every step of the installation process meets our high standards, and your expectations. Both ceramic and porcelain tiles follow similar installation steps, with a few key differences.
-
Tile and Layout Selection
Before we can begin the installation process, we start with a consultation determining the tiles that suits your budget, needs and style best. We also establish the pattern the tile will follow and how you want them laid out. Have photos or measurements? Bring them to your consultation so our team can provide more specific recommendations. We then set up an installation day appointment.
-
Preparing the Subfloor
Before your installation appointment, the subfloor must be exposed so we can get to work installing right away. Once we arrive, we ensure the subfloor is clean and dry before beginning. Then, we draw chalk lines to follow for the appropriate placement of each tile and accurate centring.
-
Laying and Grouting the Tiles
We use mortar generously to ensure durability and stick the tile to the subfloor. We make any necessary cuts and apply those tiles last to ensure an accurate fit. Once the room or space is complete, we apply grout in the cracks between the tiles to seal gaps.
-
Cleaning and Final Inspection
After applying the grout, our team cleans the tiles and ensures all details are correct.
Please note that due to the density and thickness of porcelain tiles, they can be harder to cut, which may add time to the overall installation process.
Why Work With Rome Flooring?
Tips to Help you Plan and Design your Tile Project
When installing porcelain or ceramic tiles in your washroom, kitchen, or outdoor space, thoughtful planning can help you mix and match styles while creating a cohesive look.
- Create a seamless transition: Extend your washroom vanity tiles into the shower area for a unified and sophisticated design.
- Add a focal point in the kitchen: Use a consistent backsplash throughout your kitchen but introduce a different tile behind the stove to draw attention and create visual interest.
- Mix and match within a space: Combine different styles of the same tile type—such as pairing hexagon and rectangular porcelain tiles—to achieve a unique, dynamic look while maintaining harmony.
- Blend ceramic and porcelain effortlessly: If you’re mixing materials, choose tiles with similar patterns and colours to keep the overall design sleek and cohesive.
- Incorporate a pop of colour: Want to make a statement? Pair rich, deep tones like navy blue or forest green with white or light gray tiles for a balanced yet striking finish.
Our team can guide you to choose the right flooring but also coordinate wall tile, grout colours and transitions so the finished space suits your needs and still feels intentional and cohesive.

Extended Lifespan
If you properly maintain your newly installed porcelain and ceramic tiles, you won’t have to worry about replacing them for decades to come. Even if damage occurs, it’s very easy to replace one tile. All it takes for tile maintenance is a wash with a mop and regular cleaning product.
Choosing Between Porcelain and Ceramic
When selecting tiles for your space, factors like cost, style, and durability play a key role. Both porcelain and ceramic offer distinct benefits, making them popular choices for residential and commercial use. Ultimately, the best option depends on your personal style, needs, and budget.
Porcelain tiles
It’s hard to beat the strength and durability of a porcelain tile. It’s dense and more durable than other tiles so it can easily withstand heavy wear and tear. Porcelain is also highly resistant to scratching, chipping, staining and moisture, making it the best choice for high foot traffic areas. It’s also a versatile and attractive material with a range of styles that can suit your interior.
Ceramic tiles
You don’t have to sacrifice style for price. Ceramic is an affordable, high-quality tile product that looks great on any surface. Similar to porcelain, it’s also quite versatile, with many attractive designs available to match your decor. You can even mix and match the patterns to add more personality to your space.
